When you start designing a website, there are two ways to go to do it. The first one is, you start from scratch by adopting web development and image editing softwares and the other way is to use free online content management system to establish the basics for you.
If you choose to start from scratch, the two most commonly used softwares are Adobe Dreamweaver and Kompozer. You can get Dreamweaver at cost of $300 – $400 whereas Kompozer is free to download. These softwares allow you to create web pages without a deep knowledge of the more technical parts of coding. They come with a lot of tools which will generate the code for you, allowing you to focus on the design.
Most of the professionals prefer Dreamweaver because it comes with a lot of documentation. If you’re ever stuck in designing a web page, you can look for a Dreamweaver tutorial that is easily available online. Kompozer will also provide you will the relevant tools to make a website with paying nothing but people still prefer Dreamweaver.
You also need image manipulation software when you start designing from scratch. You can get Adobe Photoshop or GIMP image editing softwares. GIMP is free while the latest version of Photoshop will cost you up to $700. And here again, every professional graphic design firm use Photoshop because it has a lot of features for in depth image handling. However if you are just looking to make something more exciting or want to create some basic shapes then GIMP would certainly be the cheaper option.
