Most of the businesses do not participate in local events because they regard them as limited events, with no future in terms of prosperity of the business in a long run. Such an approach by businesses is wrong, and it does no good to the business, rather the business loses an opportunity to do promotion and build some links.
Businesses should realize that local events serve as a corner stone for business promotion. Irrespective of the fact that some event conducted in your locality is concerned with your business or not, the business should try to participate in the event in any manner possible. Like, if there is an event, not related to the business, then the simple way in which a business can promote its name is by offering pens and pads with business name imprinted on them. This way these pads and pens will spread so will the name of the business.
The other way in which a business can utilize a local event is for link building purpose. A business can avail link building services for the event, and the service provider will research and consult with other businesses involved in the event, and offer them to write guest posts pertaining to the event. By writing guest posts on the website/blogs of other businesses, a business can get quality links and a humungous traffic from all the followers of the event.
In short, businesses should not undermine the importance of local events in any case; they may serve as a great tool for business promotion both on and off line.
